I recently read this and thought it was not only hysterical, but pretty true from the standpoint of your eyebrows can make or break your face. When I am traveling I do not always have the time or energy to put makeup on. But sometimes, especially when I look tired, I like to do something to look more awake. If you have read my posts before you have realized I love anything that is efficient or makes my life easier. Microblading my eyebrows is by far the best decision I have made in the past 2 years. Keep reading to find out all about Microblading and how it can save you time too.
We’ve all been there. Over plucked quotation marks on our face and missing the tail ends of our eyebrows. A good chunk of my life was spent thinking it was totally fine and normal to get my brows waxed at a random nail salon. I just thought that is what you did! (And no shade thrown if that’s your jam. If you’ve got an eyebrow lady you love, go for it)
After a series of unfortunate nail salon waxes, my brows were not in good shape. But, I was used to them and didn’t think much of it. That was until my friend Dominique started showing up with fabulous dark and perfect eyebrows. I immediately went to her brow lady Teresa who I am convinced is a an actual wizard. She took my brows from sad and unhappy to beautiful full arched brows. The catch? We worked on it for about a year. A year of me growing out my brows and not touching them with tweezers in between appointments. Once Teresa got my brows in a good place, we talked about Microblading. My brows were awesome but still sparse in certain areas, which is super common. Hair always grows where we don’t want it to, right?
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo treatment performed manually with a small blade to fill in one’s eyebrows to achieve a full nicely arched brow. This is done by “tattooing” hair like strokes although the ink does not go as deep into the skin as a tattoo done by a machine.
Why is this helpful?
After having my eyebrows Microbladed, I wake up and my eyebrows are done. If I am in a rush to get to the airport I can throw on some tinted moisturizer and mascara and be good to go. Same goes for swimming in the ocean or a pool. No matter what the circumstance, your brows look amazing.
Teresa Microbladed my brows over two appointments. The first session was about 2 hours, where Teresa spent most of the appointment measuring my eyebrows according to my face and drawing the shape. Another thing we did together is pick out a color that worked for me. My second appointment was 4 weeks later for touchups. After your first appointment, your brows will look very dark. After the scabbing heals there will be some color loss. So a follow up appointment is required for the Microblading to look its best.
How long does Microblading last?
Buckle up for some great news. Microblading lasts on average 18-24 months. This ultimately has saved me time in money because I no longer need as much brow maintenance as before. I still go in for the occasional shaping appointment but do not need tints every 4 weeks for a nice bold brow.
Does it hurt?
Your technician will make sure your eyebrows are numbed up by using topical numbing cream. Does this totally hide the feeling from the blade? No. I mean, it’s a tiny little blade, you’re going to feel it to an extent. It feels like little scratches and was completely tolerable. I kept telling myself, “Perfect brows! Perfect brows!” to get through it. But overall the pain is minimal.
What’s the Recovery?
Just like a tattoo, your eyebrows will need to heal and they will scab up. I would not plan any special events for the week after having your microblading done. Your brows will scab and appear darker at first. You also need to avoid sweating, working out and water for the first few days. Teresa gave me a salve to put on my brows as well to help with the healing process.
How much does Microblading cost?
This is all depends on where you live and where you go. My Micoblading was a little over $500, but I have seen in some places it averages around $900. I think if you are considering having your eyebrows Microbladed, focus less on the cost and focus on finding a great technician you can trust. Look at there before and after photos. Read reviews on Yelp.
I cannot stress this enough. After all, this is going to be ON YOUR FACE. FOR. TWO. YEARS. That could be a blessing or a curse. I suggest to start seeing someone you pick out first for some brow waxes and tints. After you are comfortable in their abilities you can have them Microblade.
I am so happy with getting my eyebrows Microbladed. I get compliments all of the time on my brows and it is one thing less to worry about when it comes to getting ready and doing my makeup. The only time I fill in my brows now is when I want to be a bit extra and go full glam. Brush your brows up with some clear brow gel like this one from Charlotte Tilbury and you’re good to go. Microblading is totally worth it in my opinion, and good brows are more in than ever. Streamline your beauty travel routine by getting your eyebrows Microbladed too.
